Nike SB Low ‘Check Solar’ 2016 – Black / Grey / Gum [705265-003] Restoration

Nike SB ‘Check Solar’ Lo are a beautiful pair from Nike’s Skateboarding range.

Featuring a canvas upper, a super comfy drop-in solar soft insole, with a thin vulc sole and forefoot pivot circle for easy directional change, these guys are built for the skate park, but make a super comfy everyday go-to pair as well.

Nike SB ‘Check Solar’ Lo are a beautiful pair from Nike’s Skateboarding range.

Featuring a canvas upper, a super comfy drop-in solar soft insole, with a thin vulc sole and forefoot pivot circle for easy directional change, these guys are built for the skate park, but make a super comfy everyday go-to pair as well.

That said, when this particular pair were dropped off and booked in for a luxury deep clean, they needed some TLC and bringing back to life.

Although this pair are almost 9 years old now (originally dropping back in December 2016), aside from wear on the thin vulc sole (specifically towards the pivot circle at the forefoot of the soles) and a small tear, these guys had plenty of life left in them.

The main focus on this pair was the tired nubuck areas of both shoes that had become tired and aged over time. The aging process would have also been accelerated by weathering and scrapes from the skates so needed restoring.

After preparing the suede areas, the nubuck areas were thoroughly cleaned from the inside out. The fabric was then rehydrated and conditioned before waterproofing and sealing the material for extra protection.

As you can see in the photos and video, the faded nubuck areas have been brought back to black, the grey swooshes back to grey, back the yellowed mid and lower soles back to their original tan gum condition.

The interiors were then sanitised and cleaned (including the soft padded collars, side panelling, solar soft insoles and toe boxes), then the laces and tongues followed the same procedure.

This SB is actually used for skateboarding, and as such required a finish was tough and durable enough to protect the restoration and protect the shoes and sustain the elements while out on the board.

Therefore, several protective layers were added following the luxury deep clean to give this pair longevity.

In addition to the original laces that looked and felt brand new following the clean, we popped another pair in the box so our customer could alternate laces between skating and outings.

Aside from the luxury deep clean, the swooshes featured on the lower soles had worn off in places which would have also been accelerated by using them as a skateboarding pair.

So the swooshes were restored on both soles, getting them back to their original condition on ready for the park!
